Southwest Minnesota Indoor Sports and Recreation Dome
A Year-Round Destination for Wellness, Recreation, and Community
For generations, Southwest Minnesota State University has partnered with alumni, friends, businesses, and community leaders to create opportunities that strengthen our region. Today, we have the opportunity to make another transformational investment in the future of Southwest Minnesota through the development of the Southwest Minnesota Indoor Sports & Recreation Dome.
This visionary project would create a premier indoor facility designed to serve students, families, youth organizations, schools, athletes, employers, and community members of all ages from throughout the region. More than just a building, the Dome would become a shared community asset that expands access to recreation, wellness, athletic development, and year-round activity regardless of weather conditions.
A Facility Designed for Regional Impact
Current planning envisions a modern indoor facility featuring an indoor track and versatile turf space capable of supporting a wide variety of activities and events. The Dome would provide opportunities for:
- Youth sports tryouts, practices, games, tournaments, and leagues
- Track and field competitions
- SMSU student-athlete training, team practices, recreation, intramurals, and more
- Camps and clinics
- Community recreation programs
- Walking and fitness opportunities
- Wellness and health initiatives
- Educational programming and special events
By creating a space that serves people of all ages and backgrounds, the Dome would help strengthen community connections while promoting healthy, active lifestyles throughout Southwest Minnesota.
Why This Project Matters
Every winter, student-athletes, families, schools, and organizations face limited options for indoor recreation and athletic training. With no other facility like it in our region, the Southwest Minnesota Indoor Sports & Recreation Dome would help address that need by providing dependable year-round access to high-quality facilities right here at SMSU.
This is an investment not only in athletics and recreation, but also in community vitality, economic development, and the long-term success of Southwest Minnesota.
Powered by Community Partnership
Projects of this scale become possible when communities come together around a shared vision. The leadership commitment made by the Schwan’s Corporate Giving Foundation is an amazing investment in this great facility, but more donations will be needed to make the Southwest Minnesota Indoor Sports & Recreation Dome become a reality. Together, we can create new opportunities for future generations.
Every investment, regardless of size, helps move this project closer to groundbreaking and demonstrates the broad community support needed to bring this vision to life.
Creating a Legacy for Future Generations
Great projects begin with bold leadership and grow through community partnership. The Schwan's Corporate Giving Foundation has taken a major step forward in helping launch the vision for the Southwest Minnesota Indoor Sports & Recreation Dome, but bringing this transformational project to life will require support from individuals, businesses, and organizations across the region.
Together, we can create a year-round destination that strengthens our communities, enhances quality of life, supports youth development, and expands opportunities for future generations.
Every contribution matters. Every partner makes a difference. And every investment brings us one step closer to making this vision a reality.
